Read each sentence given below to find out whether there is any grammatical error or wrongly spelled word. The error, if any, will be in one part of the sentence. The number of that part is the answer. If there is ‘No error,’ then the answer is d).
Type 1: Singular Plural Spotting
In this type, you have to identify whether the verb used should be singular or plural.
Q1. a) Some people is / b) running behind /c) the thief to catch him / d) No error.
Answer: a) Some people is
Reason:
The sentence should be “some people are”.
In the context of the sentence, the word people is plural, so the verb used should also be plural.
Type 2: Filler Before Infinitive Verb
An infinite verb is one which usually follows “to”. The below example involves the use of an infinitive verb.
Q2. a)Do you know / b) to play / c) chess game? / d) No error
Answer: b) to play
Reason:
The sentence should be “how to play”
(Based on the meaning of the given sentence,) After the word ‘know’, there should be “how”, “what” or “when” before the infinitive.
Type 3: Tense of Verb
This type is very common where you have to identify the right tense of the verb to be used.
Q3. a) With his efficient and intelligent ways,/ b) he kept common man very happy, and at the / c) same time he impress the king on the other side./ d) No error
Answer: c) same time he impress the king on the other side
Reason:
The sentence is denoting a past event. The word impress (simple present tense) should be replaced with impressed (past tense).
